January 11, 2019
VINCENNES, Ind. - Vincennes University is making headlines thanks to its robotic training
and preparation of high school students for high-demand careers.
Hiring Hoosiers is a series from RTV6 Indianapolis reporting on employment opportunities,
career development resources, training programs, and educational paths throughout
the state.
RTV6 is shining the spotlight on VU in two stories: “Robots are on the rise in the workplace, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing” and “Career center in Johnson County preparing students for careers in high demand.”
VU’s Ty Freed, dean of the College of Technology, and Jerry Ruble, director of the
ABB Robotics Lab and Industrial Maintenance Training, are featured prominently in
the robotics story. Freed explains the role of robots in the workplace while Ruble
shares how VU is training students to work on the equipment.
RTV6 highlighted the Central Nine Career Center in Greenwood and its precision machining
training. High school students can earn dual credit for their coursework through VU’s
Early College program. Students follow the university’s curriculum as they create items needed in manufacturing.
