Vincennes University to host state convention of art educators
October 25, 2019
VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Art and Design Department will host the Art Education Association of Indiana’s annual state convention Nov. 7-10.
More than 250 art educators and students are expected to attend from Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. VU Art and Design faculty and others will lead a variety of workshops, including sessions on ceramics, drawing, computer art and design, photography, interior design, silkscreen printing, design for social change, and international travel.
The convention theme is "Blazing New Trails in Art Education."
Art and Design Chair Ron Wise and Art and Design Transfer Program Chair Stephen Black coordinated an invitation to AEAI leadership in 2017 for VU to host the convention. AEAI leadership selected VU's Art and Design department because of the University's reputation for innovation, excellence, and varied degree programs. VU's NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) accreditation is a testament to the quality of its Art and Design offerings.
On Nov. 8, in addition to workshops, convention attendees will be able to tour the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center and historical sites such as Grouseland mansion. Evening events will feature a walking tour of downtown art galleries and dinner at a variety of local restaurants.
The schedule on Nov. 9 and 10 will feature acclaimed keynote speakers Cassie Stephens and Nancy Walkup. AEAI’s awards presentation will take place at dinner on Saturday. The evening also will feature entertainment from VU music faculty.
