Vincennes University Department of Music hosting southwest site of IBA All-District Honor Band

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Department of Music will be the host for the southwest site of the Indiana Bandmasters Association 2019 “All-District Honor Band” Nov. 23-24 at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.

Vincennes University is one of ten sites throughout the state that will be hosting this event.  The Vincennes site will feature student musicians from sixteen area high schools, including Barr-Reeve, Boonville, Forest Park, Heritage Hills, Loogootee, Mater Dei, Mount Vernon, North Daviess, North Knox, Pike Central, Princeton Community, South Knox, Southridge, Tecumseh, Terre Haute West Vigo, and Washington.  The 81-piece ensemble, under the direction of guest conductor Myron Snuffin, will rehearse all day on Nov. 23 and part of Nov. 24, then will present a concert on Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. EST in the Skelton Theatre, 20 W. Red Skelton Blvd.

Admission to the performance is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.  Doors will open to the public at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.

About Myron W. Snuffin

Snuffin is Director of Bands at Brownsburg East Middle School and Middle School Performing Arts Chair for the Brownsburg Community School Corporation.  His Brownsburg Eighth Grade Band and Jazz Bands have performed at the National Association of Middle Schools Annual Conferences in 1999, 2004, and 2009.  In addition, the Brownsburg Community School Corporation has been named a “Best Community for Music Education” by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). Snuffin received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Evansville, and his Master of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana State University, with additional graduate work at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.  He is a member of the Indiana Music Education Association, National Association of Music Education, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Phi Beta Mu (International Band Directors’ Fraternity).

Snuffin was previously a zone representative on the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) State Board.  He has served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA) since 1997, and is the IBA Liaison to the Indiana Music Education Association State Board.  He has also served IBA as an All-Region Honor Band Host and Guest Conductor, District II Representative, and All-Region Honor Band Commission Chairman.  He is currently the President of the Alliance for Indiana Music Education. 

VINCENNES UNIVERSITY - Indiana’s First College
