Trailblazers' Robison strikes out 10 batters

VINCENNES, Ind. – Freshman pitcher Ryan Robison racked up 10 strikeouts, but the Vincennes University baseball team fell in a 7-6 battle to nationally ranked Parkland in the nightcap of a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Jerry Blemker Field on Monday.

In the seven-inning game, Robison went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks.

The Trailblazers came out of the gate quickly. They raced to 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Parkland scored one run in both the second and third innings.

VU scored again in the fifth and took a 5-2 lead. The Trailblazers maintained that lead heading into the top of the final inning, but Parkland rallied with a five-run inning in the seventh and jumped out front 7-5.

The Trailblazers scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t get any closer.

VU left 12 runners on base for the game.

Sophomore Tyler Estes finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Robison, sophomore Treven Madden and freshman Max Flock also had one RBI apiece for the Trailblazers.

Madden hit a RBI double and scored a run.

Flock was 2-for-4.

Sophomore pitcher Isaiah Davis took the loss after facing seven batters. He allowed two hits and one run. He walked two.

Parkland, No. 7 in the NJCAA Division II national poll, barely got past the Trailblazers in both contests.

In the first game, the Cobras came from behind and beat VU 3-1.

VU pitchers Kacey Cheek and sophomore Luke Lancaster combined for 11 strikeouts.

Cheek tallied six strikeouts and allowed three runs on two hits in 6.1 innings. Lancaster fanned five and gave up three hits in 2.2 innings.

Estes provided the Trailblazers with their sole RBI. He put them on top 1-0 in the fifth inning.

They were unable to hang on to the one-run lead. The Cobras scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Trailblazers finished with three hits. They had chances to score. They stranded five runners on base.

VU is 15-10 overall and 4-2 in the MWAC. The Trailblazers play a doubleheader against Parkland on Tuesday at 2 p.m. EDT in Champaign, Illinois.
