Trailblazers notch win in third game of conference series

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The Vincennes University baseball team used a solid effort on the mound to win 3-2 over Illinois Central College in the first game of a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday.
Sophomore pitcher Kavan Crowell allowed two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked four to get the win. Sophomore Isaiah Davis earned the save. He faced two batters and struck out one. He didn’t give up a hit or a run.
The Trailblazers fell behind in the bottom of the second inning. They tied it at 1-all in the top of the third. In the fourth inning, VU scored twice and took a 3-1 lead. Illinois Central scored its second run in the sixth inning.
Freshman Max Flock led the offense for the Trailblazers with two hits, including a double. He added a RBI.
Freshman Trent Weiss and sophomore Treven Madden also drove in runs. Weiss smacked a double.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Madden hit a home run in the first inning of the Trailblazers’ 7-1 loss.
Sophomore Tyler Estes finished 2-for-3.
Freshman pitcher Noah Woodward struck out three, walked three and allowed three runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
VU also played a MWAC doubleheader against Illinois Central on Friday. The Cougars won the first game 14-4 in six innings.
Madden and sophomore Walker Paris both hit home runs and had two RBIs. Paris was only Trailblazer who had a multi-hit game. He managed two hits.
Freshman pitcher Kacey Cheek went 2.2 innings giving up five hits and nine runs. He struck out four and walked one.
In Game Two, the Trailblazers attempted a late comeback, but came up short and lost 18-10.
VU put five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning to cut Illinois Central’s lead to 11-10. The Cougars answered by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.
On the mound, VU freshman Ryan Robison struck four, walked two and gave up eight hits in 3.2 innings.
At the plate, Robison hit a home run, went 3-for-4, scored twice and collected a RBI.
Paris doubled and drove in three runs.
Weiss homered for one of his two hits.
Flock drove in two runs and scored two runs.
Sophomore Brian Campbell had two RBIs and a double.
Estes went 2-for-5 with a stolen base.
The Trailblazers play next on Wednesday at Volunteer State. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. EDT.
VU plays a four-game MWAC series with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday at Jerry Blemker Field.
