Students apply classroom learning to real-world retail experience
March 19, 2018
VINCENNES, Ind. - Vincennes University students have launched a unique project to learn and demonstrate how to drive business using technology. Students in the Information Technology Bachelor of Science Concentration program have partnered with VU’s Old Post Bookstore to offer a select variety of VU branded merchandise. Named "Very Unique," students will operate the business as a fundraiser from March 20 through April 12.
The project has been made possible by a partnership with Regions Bank. "We at Regions believe in advice, guidance and education and we are proud to be a partner with Vincennes University in furthering the education of tomorrow’s leaders," stated Marc McNeece, Regions branch manager.
Through the experience, students will experience firsthand the multiple aspects required to run a business, including social media marketing, building and running an e-commerce web store, order fulfillment, shipping, and finances. Online product shopping is available at vuit.rocks/shop1801.
Profits from the fundraiser will be used to establish a Regions Bank Trending Topics Fund through the Vincennes University Foundation. Scholarships provided from this fund will aid students enrolled in VU’s Technology Bachelor’s Degree program, with a concentration in Information Technology.
"Through this project we have been able to work with the VU Bookstore, the Foundation and Alumni Office, the Management Information Center, our Financial Services office, and Regions Bank,” says Jaci Lederman, department chair of Information Technology. “There is no better way to learn how organizations collaborate to successfully deliver a service or product."
