FORT BRANCH, Ind. - A variety of training opportunities will soon begin at the Vincennes University Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics, thanks to the introduction of an official OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Host Site.

In cooperation with the University of Cincinnati and the Great Lakes OSHA Education Center, VU can now host training, primarily geared to occupational safety and health topics, throughout the Midwest.

The initial class, OSHA 511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, will be held Nov. 28 to Dec. 1 and is open to the general public. OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry will be held Dec. 12-15 and is limited to individuals who meet specific credentialing criteria.

Questions and registration information is available from Clay Whitaker, manager of Business and Industry South, 812-888-2890, cwhitaker@vinu.edu, or at www.vinu.edu/workforce-development/osha.

The range of courses, including the OSHA Outreach Trainer Program, will allow companies access to courses designed to educate employers and their workers.  These courses will assist both parties in anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, controlling, avoiding, and preventing safety and health hazards in their workplaces. In addition to offering construction and general industry courses from the OTI catalog, VU will be able to customize site-specific classes tailored to fit area workplace, business, and industrial requirements.

The target audience for this training is safety specialists, safety directors, human resources directors, industrial sites, and construction companies.

The Great Lakes OHSA Education Center at the University of Cincinnati (UC) has trained thousands of America’s workers in OSHA’s Region V in occupational safety - including the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin - and throughout the U.S. Since becoming an OSHA authorized Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) in the mid-1990s, UC has gained an international reputation for excellence in health and safety graduate education, continuing education, and research.

“Vincennes University has a successful history of providing quality, customized training to statewide business and industries.  With this partnership, and its focus on employee safety, area companies and organizations will have greater access to versatile training options,” said Clay Whitaker, manager for Business and Industry Training at the VU Gibson Center.

“The VU Gibson Center is a state-of-the-art facility with modern classroom and training spaces. OSHA curriculum will further enhance the already popular Crane Operator and Miner Training programs, currently offered at Vincennes University, and will make for a nice addition to other available workforce development programs” said Brandon Workman, program manager at Great Lakes OSHA Education Center.
