Nominations sought for Vincennes University Foundation’s Bierhaus Doorway scholarship

VINCENNES, Ind. – Student nominees are being sought for the 2020-21 William M. Bierhaus Doorway Scholarship to Vincennes University, according to Kristi Deetz, Executive Director of Foundation, VU Foundation.

The scholarship was established by William M. Bierhaus, II in honor of his father, William M. Bierhaus, and will be awarded to an incoming VU freshman who is a graduate of either Vincennes Lincoln High School, Rivet High School, South Knox High School or North Knox High School in Knox County, Indiana. The scholarship, which is intended to be awarded for two years, is designed for a student who would not be able to attend college without the financial assistance of the Doorway Scholarship.

Students must be nominated by an adult in the community - such as a high school teacher or counselor, a minister or another community leader who is familiar with the student, his or her academic background, community involvement, and financial need. The educational grant can amount to as much as $5,000 per school year for educational expenses.

Letters of recommendation should be sent to the Vincennes University Foundation, 1002 N. First Street, Vincennes IN 47591, by April 1, 2020. No special application form is required; however, the student’s merits and education background should be included in the letters. The writer should also indicate why the student should be considered for the scholarship.
