Mady Borders proudly shared the title of co-valedictorian at her high school alongside her twin sister. She continues to showcase her outstanding academic abilities at Vincennes University, where she is on the brink of graduating with the University's highest academic honors, Summa Cum Laude, and earning an associate degree in Cyber Security.

Borders is one of 11 Class of 2024 Mid-Year Graduates who attained an extraordinary milestone by completing their degrees with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Beyond her impressive academic achievements, Mady has immersed herself in campus life at VU. The Elnora, Indiana native has stoked her passion for music and actively participates in various clubs that align with her career aspirations.

While she is poised to graduate at the 2024 Mid-Year Commencement on Dec. 7, Mady has chosen to remain at VU to further her education by pursuing a bachelor's degree in the University's nationally ranked Homeland Security and Public Safety program. Her ultimate goal is to forge a path in law enforcement, and she believes that VU has afforded her unique opportunities that she might not have encountered elsewhere.

One of those opportunities is receiving a VU Valedictorian/Salutatorian Academic Scholarship that pays for nearly her entire VU education.

Mady is excited about the future and the subsequent experiences that await her.

Below, Mady reflects on her VU experiences, shares her career aspirations, what makes her a Trailblazer, and more.

Why did you choose to attend VU?

“I chose Vincennes University because it’s close to home and many members of my family have attended before me. VU also offered unique opportunities, and its programs closely aligned with my educational goals and career aspirations.”

Tell us how VU has prepared you for your career.

“VU has equipped me with both the technical skills and the soft skills necessary to succeed in my future career. The hands-on experiences in my coursework, combined with the opportunities on campus, have helped me develop essential skills like teamwork, communication, and leadership. These skills will not only benefit me in my career but throughout my life.”

What have been your best experiences at VU?

“The best experiences I’ve had at VU have been with the personable and caring faculty members. Their genuine concern for their students has made a huge impact on me. I’ve also formed lasting friendships with my peers, and activities like Pep Band and the Cybercrime Investigators Club have been highlights of my time on campus. These experiences have truly enriched my journey at VU.”

What clubs, groups or organizations are you involved with?

“I currently serve as the secretary for both the Cybercrime Investigators and the Cadet Corps. clubs. Additionally, I am an active member of the Campus Gaming Club, Pep Band, and Concert Band. I chose to participate in these organizations because I wanted to make the most of my time outside the classroom and avoid a monotonous routine. Being involved allowed me to engage with diverse groups of people, expand my skill set, and explore new interests in a fun and enriching way.”

What makes you a Trailblazer?

“I consider myself a Trailblazer because of my commitment to working hard and forging my own path. I’ve always strived to do my best, and now all my dreams are becoming a reality as I approach graduation.”
