Indiana students to get free help in filing for financial aid
October 17, 2018
VINCENNES, Ind. - Filling out financial aid paperwork for college can be complicated
and time-consuming, but College Goal Sunday makes it easy. The program offers assistance
and advice to help college-bound students complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA).
Financial aid professionals will be available at Vincennes University’s Vincennes
and Jasper campuses during College Goal Sunday on October 28 at 2 p.m. (EDT). The
Vincennes Campus event will take place at the Shake Learning Resources Center and
on the Jasper Campus in the Classroom Building.
Most colleges, universities, and vocational/technical schools throughout the U.S.
require students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, to complete
the FAFSA. The FAFSA must be received by the federal processor on or before April
15 to be considered "on-time" for Indiana state grant funding. 21st Century Scholars
are required to complete and submit a FAFSA to claim their Scholarships.
“Students who don’t complete their financial aid paperwork properly and on time are
often very disappointed when they find out how much financial aid they lost,” said
Bill Wozniak, co-chair of College Goal Sunday.
WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD BRING
Students should attend with their parent(s) or guardian(s), and parents should bring
completed 2017 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 forms, and other 2017 income and benefits
information. Students who worked in 2017 should bring their income information as
well. Students aged 24 or older may attend alone and bring their own completed 2017
IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 form, or other 2017 income and benefits information. Students
and parents are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education FSA IDs
at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm before coming to the event.
