What can I expect during my time at VU?
- The Social Work, A.S. program at Vincennes University is designed to prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree.
- The program includes courses that cover various aspects of social work, including social work practice, social welfare and policy, social problems, and human behavior in the social environment.
- Vincennes University is the only public university in Indiana to offer an Associate of Science in Social Work.
- In addition to coursework, students gain hands-on experience through community placements at local social service agencies. This allows them to work with social workers in real-world settings and apply their knowledge to practical situations.
- The faculty in the Social Work program are highly qualified, holding at least a Master of Social Work degree and having passed the State of Indiana Licensed Clinical Social Worker examination. Graduates of this program often pursue bachelor's and master's degrees in social work and work in various fields.
What can I do with this degree?
This associate's degree does not lead directly to a career. Graduates of the program typically continue their education to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in social work, opening doors to a wide array of career possibilities in the field.
Examples of social work roles include:
- School Social Workers: Help ensure students have the resources needed to succeed.Hospital Social Workers: Assist patients in obtaining necessary assistance after discharge.
