How to apply for Parent PLUS Loans

To apply for the federal direct parent PLUS loan, follow these directions:

1. Go to StudentAid.gov Opens in a new window and Log In using your Parent FSA ID username and password. 
   • If you don’t have a FSA ID, click on Create Account (under the Log In button). You will have to wait approximately 3 days for a confirmation email from FSA ID before you can continue with this process. 
2. Click on I’m a Parent, then on the Apply for Parent PLUS Loan.  Click on START button.
3. Select award year 2026-2027, then provide your student’s information.  Scroll down to read and select your choices on how the loan is processed.
4. In the “School Information” select “Indiana” and “Vincennes University”.
5. If you specify a “Loan Amount Requested” this amount will be divided and half will be applied toward the fall semester and the remaining half will be applied toward the spring semester. 
6. Loan Period for the whole academic year starts August 2026 and ends May 2027.
7. Click the Continue button and follow directions.
8. You will receive immediate notification if your credit was approved or denied.

If your credit was approved, proceed to completing the Master Promissory Note:

1. Click on the START button under PLUS MPN for Parents.
2. Complete all steps of the MPN including the Sign and Submit section.

If your credit was denied, the student may be eligible to receive UP TO $4,000 in additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.  Once we have received notice that the PLUS loan was denied we will offer the additional eligible amount.  

Once our office starts receiving loans for 2026-2027, please allow 2 – 5 business days for VU to process your Parent PLUS application. 

NEW: Beginning July 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 academic year, federal Parent PLUS loans will be capped at $20,000 annually per student. The annual Parent PLUS loan amount a student can be offered is based on cost of attendance minus all other estimated financial aid. This maximum annual limit includes all parents (combined) per dependent student. New regulations also include a $65,000 aggregate Parent PLUS loan limit per dependent student.

Your student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours to receive federal direct loan funds.
