Dr. Karen Braselton is a tenured professor teaching in the Department of Communication on the Vincennes University main campus. Dr. B., as her students know her, began teaching at VU in the Fall of 2009. She teaches courses on campus and online through the Distance Education program. Dr. Braselton also teaches Speech to an international cohort of students, usually students from China, on a weekly two-hour live Zoom session. She enjoys teaching Oral Interpretation of Literature, Communication Studies, Advertising, Speech, and Interpersonal Communication courses. Dr. Braselton also teaches a special section of Interpersonal Communication that has a health-care focus that is tailored to students in health science programs; students can enroll in this section each semester either face-to-face or online.
 
Dr. Braselton earned her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2007 in Speech Communication with interest areas in pedagogy, culture, and health communication. Her published work on “How the immigration process influences health communication of immigrant travelers” is found in the Journal of Communication Studies.
 
Continuing with her studies of culture, you can find Dr. Braselton in places like Almaty, Kazakhstan or Uganda, Africa during the summer months doing mission work.
 
When not investing time in her continued learning of culture and communication, Dr. Braselton enjoys quality family time, strengthening her faith, reading books for pleasure, baking, traveling, and doing any activity that includes being with her husband and children.
