Jannatul Ferdush is an Assistant professor in the Geosciences, Agriculture, and Horticulture Department. Jannatul joined VU in Fall 2023. Earlier she earned her Ph.D. in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Mississippi State University during Summer 2022. Later she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, LA. She graduated from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in Bangladesh with a B. S. in Agriculture in 2015 and a M.S. in Soil Science in 2017.
Jannatul's Ph.D and MS research focused on soil carbon sequestration, gas flux monitoring, plant-soil interaction, environmental factors, and geospatial and remote sensing analysis. She obtained an opportunity to do an internship under NASA DEVELOP National Program, and worked as a subject matter expert under NASA/AGU Open Science Program.
She also worked as a Lecturer and Teaching Assistant for GIS and earth Science courses, and GIS Lab Manager for two universities in Bangladesh. These insights have allowed her to design and teach courses and apply best teaching practices. Jannatul's fun facts are outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, driving, yoga, board games, and spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies are wild and abstract photography, gardening, and baking.
