Imagine stepping into a classroom where every lesson is powered by a lifelong dedication to inclusion, empathy, and community. For Professor Ann Herman, this is where the transformative journey of teaching begins.
Education is far more than delivering a lesson plan; it is a gateway to shaping young minds, fostering inclusive spaces, and guiding future leaders. As the Chair of the Education Department and a Professor at Vincennes University, Professor Herman has dedicated her career to opening these gateways for students. Her journey began right in her hometown of Vincennes, and her deep passion for special education has taken her across Indiana—teaching in Evansville, Indianapolis, and beyond—advocating for individuals with exceptionalities at every stage of life.
Whether a student is embarking on an associate degree track or pursuing a bachelor’s degree in specialized education areas, Professor Herman is there to guide them. She believes that bringing real-world classroom experiences into higher education transforms the way future teachers engage with their students, equipping them for careers grounded in compassion and excellence.
Bringing Real-World Advocacy to VU Students
Professor Herman’s dedication to inclusion extends far beyond the university walls. She understands that true educational leadership comes from active community involvement and meaningful human connection.
As the advisor for both the campus Education Club and the Friends Club, an organization that partners with local groups to provide entertainment, friendship, and lifelong support to adults with special needs in the Knox County community, she bridges the gap between academic theory and real-world citizenship.
For prospective students, her department offers a supportive, empowering space to discover their unique teaching voices. She meets students exactly where they are, using her extensive real-world experience as a lifelong special educator to enhance their learning and prepare them to manage classrooms of their own. Under her leadership, future educators don't just memorize pedagogy; they learn the art and honor of inspiring tomorrow’s learners.
A Pathway to Purposeful Careers
At Vincennes University, Professor Herman is ready to help you write your own story of connection and impact. Under her guidance, the Education Department prepares students to excel in high-demand, highly fulfilling careers in elementary, secondary, and special education.
If you are a prospective student looking for an education that pairs practical classroom skills with a profound social impact, Professor Herman’s door is always open. She is ready to welcome you into a vibrant academic community where you can find your purpose, empower others, and make a lasting difference in the lives of future generations.
