My Mission:

My mission is to help students become proficient in writing clearly, reading critically, and speaking confidently. My courses are focused on improving grammar, writing fluency, writing organization, insightful thinking, research strategies, and academic writing conventions.

My History:

In the 1930s, my grandma attended Indiana University and studied journalism. For her first job, she wrote for a publication in Washington D.C. She defied odds for a woman in that time to not only earn a degree from a large research university but to also have an opportunity to use her voice in such a powerful way. Her struggle to earn an education in a depressed time has always inspired me. From a very young age, I learned to value reading, writing, and speaking through countless trips to her favorite place, our local library. I followed her example by also earning a degree at Indiana University. I was a public-school teacher for 19 years, where I taught a variety of levels before becoming a university professor.

Throughout my teaching experience, I have witnessed the power that English has to enable students to analyze and think critically about politics, global perspectives, social structures, and human experiences. I am anxious to help students at Vincennes University Jasper Campus develop and improve their thinking, writing, and speaking skills in a safe, expressive environment.
